25 Memorable Moments from the Pittsburgh Penguins’ 2010-2011 Season
#18: The Alumni Game
Wasn’t it cool to see all these guys together on the ice again!? Especially for those of us who might not have even been born yet or were too young to notice when they were in the NHL! And, because I was there I can tell you first hand….it was SO COOL.

Number 2 pick Kirk Muller, Number 1 pick Mario Lemieux and Number 3 pick Ed Olczyk at the 1984 NHL Draft.

#1: The New Arena
The Civic Arena had been around longer than any of us could remember. If you were lucky enough to have gone to a game there, you knew that the atmosphere was incredible. But we all knew that it was getting outdated, and it was time to move. After years of disputes and fears of the team leaving Pittsburgh, we finally got the green light for the arena we all desired. And this year, we finally got to see the finished product. During the home opener, a symbolic ceremony pregame involved Mario Lemieux pouring melted ice from the Civic Arena on the new Consol Energy center and started the crazy ride that was the 2010-2011 season. If you are lucky enough to have gone to a game there like I did this year, you’ll know that while everything wasn’t exactly the same atmosphere-wise, the Consol Energy center is just plain cool. Our team is ready to fill it with as many memories as the Civic Arena had. And after all we went through to get our new home, I think it’s safe to say that we deserve every part of it.

Source: capslockandhockeyi got a pretty good zoom lens for christmas, but i still had to crop a lot of pictures so that you could see. seeing the other side of the rink was difficult sometimes, as it was blocked by various things on the sideline. i’m guessing the upper level seats will be way better for viewing the winter classic.
